Music Soothes the Soul

August was a “summer heat wave of music”, quite refreshing I must say. From Joss Stone stunning debut (July |2011) to Lil Wayne (08/30/2011) ending it with a bang. I had the privilege to listen to some of the albums that were announced here on Destruction of Glitter suggested albums for each Tuesday in August and I must say all Artists left an imprint on my musical soul! I briefly describe each album with my interpretation and then listed them in the TOP FIVE (not chronological order)… If you have not done so already please click the link to become a follower to Destruction of Glitter.

5. Black & White America – Lenny Kravitz
It has been a while since Mr. Kravitz put out his 9th studio album. Need I say, return of the Mack no wait funk. I don’t think it’s up for debate whether or not Lenny can make a guitar sing? Nope, didn’t think so. “Sunflower” has the potential to be a billboard smash with Swizz Beatz & Drake on a hook.

4. Watch The Throne – Jay-Z & Kayne West
“ Plankin’ on a million”, with catchy versus such as these I think Jay-Z has proved he is not your average rapper. Throw Mr. West’s insane beats in the mix and ladies & gentlemen and you have potentially one of the greatest albums of all time. Hands down my most favorite song has to be: No Church in the Wild: Two tattoos, one read “No Apologies” The other said “Love is cursed by monogamy” That’s somethin’ that the pastors don’t preach – Kanye can do no wrong!

3. The R.E.D. Album – Game:
OWWWWWWW (In my Werewolf voice) I must say I like him more as an artist than a freestyler instigating in other folks affairs. If you doubted this gentlemen’s ability to spit flows check again. This album, reminds me of Slick Rick telling stories. When rapping had substance just listen to: All I Know”. Versatility? Check he teams up with Wale, Beanie Sigel and Nelly Furtado.

2. Success Is Certain – Royce da 5’9:
If you don’t know his name pleases Google the kid. Yes, it is not to be mistaken. ½ of Bad Meet Evil makes a great mind tease. With flows that speaks to every outcast, or under achiever/dog. Just listen to “Independent’s Day to Rock City to hear him dissect the world threw the philosophers eyes.

Tha Carter 4 – Lil Wayne
I had the opportunity to see this fellow out on tour and he packs a punch like a sour skittle (dressed in hot pink killed the stage). Hard to take the guy that would “…every girl in the world” seriously. I had my doubts, but I think Mr. Carter has definitely matured. This album the young MC has a vicious way with world play, and I must even admit poetic. If you missed the primer of “How To Love” music video pull out your smart phone and YouTube it! It is just that compelling and with songs like: “Abortion” & “So Special” how could it not be number one!

Choices in Presidential Election?

LZ Granderson not only gives me food for thought but the man always seems to get a chuckle out of me. He hits the nail on the head and holds back no punches which he does again with his article called “Huntsman, best candidate for a third party”. We all are thinking the same thing with the upcoming president elections picking between the less of two evils called the Democratic and Republicans. I don’t anyone dictating what I do with my body, who I spend my life with and how I deal with my spiritual soul. What I want is an improved economic health, more jobs, the best education for my children and yes let’s not forget lower gas prices.

“So even though independent voters may have questions about Obama's ability to help the economy, and they may agree with some of the fiscal talking points of his opponents, when given the choice between him and, say, a candidate who wants to make abortions illegal, or discriminates against gays or Muslims, well he becomes a lot more appealing.1 Granderson. L.Z”

Are we stuck between a rock and a hard place as we move forward into the elections? It’s time that President Obama proves that he can improve if not complete fix the economy to those of us who still believe in him. So that voting for him to keep are rights for are bodies, choices on lovers and spirituality not feel like such a tough decisions. With this concept in mind becoming and Independent seems more appealing. Better yet how about those we vote into office take a real listen to what the American people who vote them into office really want and need.

Happy Birthday Michael Jackson

(August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009)

Michael Jackson would be celebrating his 53rd Birthday today. His star will never dull out. An amazing artist, who sang, danced, and acted his way into our hearts. I fell in love with Michael Jackson when his album “Thriller” came out it’s been love ever since. As I proudly wore my Michael Jackson tee shirt and buttons as by friends and I created dances off of his songs. He also touched millions along with inspiring artist that have come after him. No matter the artist or genre I believe was touched by his music. As an artist he offered so much for others to take from. His fashion sense, dance style, music and just putting on a show for the fans. Just take a look at some of the top artist at this time “Beyonce, Chris Brown, Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Lil Wayne they work on their craft and give the fans a show!” Love you Michael Jackson you have not only touched my life but my five year old daughter also enjoys him just as much.

More Then New Clothes Needed This School Year

With a new school year here my fears of am I doing the right thing when it comes to my girl’s education creep up. Education is very important in my house hold and getting them the best education is my aim at this time. All else will fall to the waste side as I continue to way out the best options. My oldest is in a great Middle School and is doing very well I was happy to see that she was in Honors Math. I am excited to meet the new teachers to feel them out and see if they are committed to educating these young people. My youngest is starting Kindergarten and I am still debating with myself in regards to did I make the right decision. I still have some options and I will be filling out the applications for two local charter schools for next year just in case I am not happy with how all goes this year. Look out PTA because I will be back on board this year.

My favorite columnist LZ Granderson is back and he is feeling the same way that I am. It is time to invest more money and time into educating our children. It seems that this country is lagging behind when it comes to education, defiantly in the subjects of math, science and technology. What is crazy to me is that these are the areas that will help put this country back on track with jobs. We are putting are children and that of the future economy by not putting the proper amount of funds into educating are children. “Yet our education system continues to slip in the world ranking, and I don't see a Teachers-of-the Year Dream Team or a Super Committee made of top business leaders to help address this very real crisis.1 (Granderson, LZ)” It is time as parents to step up and fight hard for the future of are children by getting them the best education possible.

Nick Ashford 1/2 of Solid As A Rock Dead at 70

The first time I heard Ashford & Simpson was when I heard the song “Solid As a Rock”. How could you not love a song with such heart felt lyrics “Solid And for love’s sake, each mistake you forgave. And soon both of us learn to trust. Not run away it was no time to play.” So it saddens me to hear that he died at the age of 70 yesterday from his battle of throat cancer. I was delighted to find out that he wrote such famous songs as “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” which Diana Ross made extremely famous and if you are familiar with Marvin Gaye and Tami Terrell’s “You’re All I Need (To Get By) was also written by Nick Ashford. Beautiful soulful music that touched many a hearts he will be missed. It seems that he never seemed to age and yes his marriage to Valerie Simpson of 38 years. He is survived by Valerie along with their two daughters, Nicole and Asia. Rest in Peace Nick Ashford.

Who runs the world will be the female who not only has done well in 2010/2011 but the one who has staying power. Yes they will need to take a page from the Diva who is running the world at this time Beyonce Knowles yes she is not a rapper but she has staying power. What sets her apart is her work ethic, she had a dream for herself and she continues to work hard to stay on top of the charts, selling out shows and yes keeping her face and brand out for the public. We all can learn from Beyonce if you have a goal and you want it bad enough you must do much more then talk about it. You must put the work, sacrifice, and time in to accomplish whatever your goal is. Girls want to rule the world then its time to put in the work, be it school, your career, or a hobby.

I am almost positive Kate is not feeling any TLC when she heard her reality show has been canceled. It was confirmed yesterday that they will not be renewing the starlets contract but stated they may do "check-in" specials on the family.. At the end of the season the show will have completed 150 episodes, it's safe to say they had a fair run.

Music Soothes My Soul & Moves My Bones

With Jay Z and Kayne West to start touring soon to promote their collaborated album that hits stores next week. I think it we should discuss "passing the torch". I completely understand being a devoted artist and feeding into the fan frenzy, however; when is enough, enough”? Like when is Tina Turner going to retire or Prince says I’m done? Let’s discuss the Modern Marvels shall we?

Past > Modern Marvel
Madonna passing the torch to Lady Gaga
Lil’ Kim > Nicki Manaj
Snoop Dogg > Wiz Kalifiah
Tina Turner > Beyoncé
Lil Jon > Wacka Flacka Flame
Prince > Miguel
R.Kelly > Trey Songz
Jay Z > Lil Wayne
To Short > Big Sean
Fiona Apple > Sarah Bareilles
Slick Rick > Kayne West
Aretha Franklin > Jill Scott
Ja Rule > Drake
Bobby Brown > Lloyd
Cher > Jessie J
Stevie Wonder > Bruno Mars
The Crows > The All American Rejects
Celina Dion > Leona Lewis
Mya > Keri Hilson
Pasty Cline > Taylor Swift
Kenny Roger > Blake Shelton
Most Def > Lupe Fiasco
Dougie Fresh > Swiss Beatz
Green Day > Kings of Leon
Jennifer Lopez > Kat DeLuna / Selena Gomez

Are these young stars even worthy to take over were these famous artists left off? Hey some of these older artists still have some mileage left on them. I have had the privilege of seeing Prince in concert twice and he still has an amazing stage presence, vocals and the man plays several instruments. Sorry, Miguel is not ready to step in this man’s shoes, yes he has great vocals and writing skills; but let’s see if he has “staying power”. Nicki Manaj has surpassed Lil’ Kim simply because she has been able to reach the masses through her pop diddies that have young stars singing them on YouTube. If you have a chance, check out Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez singing “Super Bass”.

Miss Nicki Manaj stepped out the gate and gained a great amount of cross over appeal right alongside her stands her two label mates Lil Wayne and Drake. They are prepared to take over the game and a few younger fans with both Nicki and Drake to appear in the next installment of Ice Age: Continental Drift. Sure some older artist should past on the torch but they should never be forgotten. If artist want to set up there future take a look at people like Prince, Tina Turner, and Sade turning into their fifty’s, have appeal outside of there so called genre’s and can touch different generations.

Racism Lives

I kind of wanted to avoid reading this article for the simple of reason of the title “Video shows white teens driving over, killing black man, says DA” brings to light that racism still lives. Not that I don’t believe that out and out racism lives but the fact that a James Craig Anderson lost his life because of his skin color. What is most frightening is the fact that it was a group of teens and the one who drove the truck was 18 years old. The question that sticks out in my mind most is where did he learn such hatred? Home, school, friends, internet how does it spread and fuel such hatred were it means nothing to take the life of another. The fact that I let my girls know that not everyone will like you for different reasons including skin color, hair texture, looks, they way you speak, cloths or simple that you have made a bad first impression. I think I try to drill this into them because in the far recesses’ of my mind I do believe that we have not come that far from the 60’s and the civil rights movement.

US Financial Landscape Hits Home

OK, so I would love to say that I am one of those glass half full people but the economy has me a bit scared. The outlook of the real world of those of us who work hard the back bone of the American workforce seems to be the ones who get hit the hardest. At this point not only have we been hit but it is slow crawls for us to climb back on are feet. Friday nights S&P downgraded of the US credit rating from an AAA to an AA+ might just affect the work force that has already been hard.

At this time about 13.9 million Americans are unemployed with 44.4% of these have been unemployed for more then 6 months. Makes me very thankful at this time for my paycheck and after bills, and clearing as much debt as possible I will be attempting to save more. Its going to take a lot for me to make a major purchase out of the simple fear that jobs are scarce and company’s are still reducing staff to help with there bottom line. The fact that times are hard becomes reality when it comes homes with friends and family. Its time for the hard working class to take stock of there families financial future and if you do have a little extra cash and are brave, know the market it maybe time to pick up some of this stock that is being sold like it is a fire sale.

No Your Status

Wrap It Up

We need to drill into the minds of young children to use a condom at all times and test for status when it comes to STDs. Young children grown into young adults who will at a point and time will have sex. Be it heterosexual, gay, lesbian or both the point is they need to learn to protect themselves against STDs. Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011 the online scientific journal PLos One published data that shows the largest increase of HIV infection was among bisexual men and men who have sex with men. They are saying that it is an “alarming increase”. That statement alone should push for better education on sex and testing to help lift the stigma of being a young African American male who has sex with other males.

"We cannot allow the health of a new generation of gay men to be lost to a preventable disease. It's time to renew the focus on HIV among gay men and confront the homophobia and stigma that all too often accompany this disease."1(Mermin, J) The key to helping reduce the amount of new cases with in the community is to prevent young people from contracting the disease. I feel that the way to prevent is to better educate young people. Know matter how we feel in regards to sex or sexuality. Yes I believe in abstinence until a young person is mental ready and understand the consequences of having sex. Young people have sex no matter if you a parent attempts to act as if it doesn’t exist. It’s better to educate them on not only pregnancy but on STDs and how to prevent both with the use of condoms.

It’s a scare fact when you see that in 2006-2009 48% increase on HIV in males ages 13-29 who are having sex with other males. Prevention by letting them now that using condoms at all times will help protect them from contract HIV. If these young people are denying that they are have sex with other males, not using protection then I doubt that they are testing themselves to check there STD status. Which just keeps them in a bad cycle which may end up with them dead very early. I will continue to educate my daughters on there body’s, sex, STD’s, prevention and yes that there are men and women who sleep with both sex’s. Education and knowing your status in my opinion is key to help prevent STD’s and passing them on to sexual partners.

Unless you've been living under a rock the past few weeks there is no reason for you to not know Jennifer Lopez is 42, and single again. I find it entertaining to say the least. I recently watched "Lopez's story" on VH1: Behind The Music 07/08/11.

She has had several failed marriages/Engagements and numerous highly publicized relationships: Chris Paciello, Tommy Mattolla, Wesley Snipes, Chris Judd, Ojani Noa, Marc Anthony, Joaquin Cortez, Ben Affleck, & P. Diddy.

The Actor, Dancer, American Idol judge, Singer is current in the studio making finishing touches on her highly anticipated album. This influential woman is making her stamp and leaving her permanent mark that she is here to stay! Single and loving it and from recent articles interviews has not given up on true love. Guess we'll have to see who shall be her next prince charming?

As we believe here on Destruction of Glitter all that sparkles is not gold. She recently stated in an interview with Mirror.co.uk her and ex-husband Marc Anthony didn't have the picture perfect marriage as it may have seemed.

Jennifer is a heavy weight in the industry and as a Hispanic female influence individual of our time. Jennifer

is letting the world know she is Jenny from the block and not to be mis construed. Yes, she is the best and sorry for the mix up!

I Can Do Better

I have been viben to Drake's "Marvin's Room" for the past couple of months along with the host of remix's that cropped up. I am guessing it was the beat and what seems like the drunken rant of lover perhaps heartbroken. I am older so I have been there done that mind set that enjoy this song, the beat is melodic, some of the lyrics are laughable, sad but understandable of the emotions of being left behind by a lover. When you are young everything just seems so intense, so beautiful just like the perfect fit as if it will last forever.

Damn it hurts at times when you put in time, emotion, and love into a relationship to watch it just crumble and fall apart. Emotions run high enough to make you do things that you normal would not do offering up emotions, sexual pleasures, pleading for another chance just to keep a person that does not want to be a part of your life. At times we forget a relationship is two people who come together because of an attraction be it physical, emotional, spiritual or common interest. Importantly it is a mutual connection that has brought two people together.

This attraction might grow as you grow as a couple or it may fizzle out due to temporary infatuation. Break ups happen for different reasons I always think that it was my fault like the world is all about me! What is it about me that was not worth loving that I would get left behind with my broken heart? It has nothing to do with you at times it maybe about what the other person in the relationship needs at that time. We forgot that it is a relationship its two people. The other person has their own needs, emotions, dreams, and goals to accomplish in life. At that time I just did not fit into there life and their life goals. Maybe they could not see themselves in my life's goals and dreams. It is hard to understand that a person can do better then us or perhaps we are just not the right puzzle piece to that other person.

No matter what part of your self you offer during a drunken or even a sober call begging for another chance will not change the other persons mind. If they do it would only be a temporary fix for something that might not be fixable. In the end do we really want someone who does not want to be with us the way that we would like them to? They have just freed us for true soulful love. Love doesn’t get any easier as we get older it just seems to evolve. For the record my two favorite cover remix's of "Marvin's Room" is by two young Artists who are just growing up quickly JoJo and Sammie you can also take a listen to Teyana Taylor along with Chris Brown.

"Children want their parents to be heroes. In polygamy, parents weren't our heroes. They were our bogeymen." Flora Jessop is the Author of "Church of Lies" and a former Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint sect member. She also is working to establish a foundation for young girls who also escape polygamist sects.

Warren Jeff’s has dismissed lawyers and aids. He is now asking Judge Barbara Walther for additional time to prepare his own defense. Last Thursday the Polygamist leader's trial started. He is being charged with two counts of sexual assault for raping two under-aged girls and fathering a child with one of them if convicted he may receive up to 119 years in prison.

In his testimony on Friday, Jeffs said there was no crime, explaining that he and both girls had a “spiritual” marriage bond. He went on to say that the FLDS must “follow the law set out for it by God.”

“If we do not live these laws we are damned here and hereafter. We believe in a marriage system of eternity called celestial marriage, wherein celestial means heavenly authorized, not to be intervened by government intervention,” Jeffs said.

Jeffs ended his speech by saying, “Amen.”1 (Christianpost.com)

At this point I am just baffled that the above still goes on as a parent and a woman are we not suppose to protect are children. Not offer them up to be used sexual by a man. Light has been shed on the sex trade to me the line is not that much different in the case above the use of young girls to satisfy the sexual urges of grown men.

The Value of Creativity

I agree with Matt Damon when he says "As I look at my life today, the things that I value about myself, my imagination, my love of acting, my passion for writing, my love of learning, my curiosity, came from the way that I was parented and taught," Damon told the teachers. "And none of these qualities that I just mentioned, none of these qualities that I prize so deeply, none of these qualities that have brought me so much joy, that have made me so successful professionally, none of these qualities that make me who I am can be tested," he said. 1 (CNN.com)

It seems that children are not being taught but drilled to be able to pass a standardized test. For the past four years I know for a fact that yes teachers teach a curriculum but a lot of time is taken to make sure that know what is tested on the EOG’s (End-of-Grade the standardized test in my city). Which is designed to measure student performance on the goals, objectives, and grade-level competencies specified for the state. I think it takes away from the beauty of learning because it turns the focus of passing this test.

Stressful for young children to know that not passing this test can lead to them being held back. No matter how well that they may have done the whole year. This is a lot of pressure on young children as young as eight years old. It is also added stress on the parents and teachers who are working hard to just get the children to love the joy of reading, understanding math concepts and building a love of discovering science. The educational systems needs to be fine tuned to help are children learn for the success of this country in the future a touch of creativity is needed. We all can learn a little bit from Matt Damon’s past by helping to support are children in what brings them small joys being it sports, writing, arts, science along with sitting down and helping during homework time. Perhaps we should be teaching children to be future, inventors, scientist, and architect, to help this country continue to grow.
