It saddens me that the rate of new case continues to grow in the Black community. The statistics from the 2009 research by the CDC, African Americans make up 14% of the population in the United States and make up 44% of new cases of AIDS in 2009 the highest population of new cases along with deaths from the disease. To me it is just crazy either as African Americans we think we are invincible or just do not care to protect against the disease. It should be thought of this way when you sleep with your partner you are also sleeping with them, previous partners and their previous partners and so on.

Know your status, learn more about the disease, and protect yourself and your partner!

Some quick facts from CDC study in 2009:

Black men accounted for 70% of the estimated new cases of HIV

Black men having sex with men accounted for 37% of new cases of HIV

The highest number amongst men having sex with men in the age range of 13-29

Black women accounted for 30% and 85% of these cases 85% acquired through heterosexual sex
