Album Review Girls of Summer

2011 was arguably the summer for the world's most powerful woman: Lady Gaga, Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland. The trio all dropped they’re long anticipated studio albums for anxious fans. And of course I had the privilege to hear each one.

Lady Gaga
Born This Way
Released: May 11, 2011

Gaga can do no wrong this is a surely a feel good album. There has not been a bar, lounge, club or establishment that I didn’t hear 1 of her Billboard hits playing from. “You and I” reminds me of a Kenny Roger bit telling a story only thing missing is my bottle of Jack Daniels and my favorite pair of western boots. “Judas” is another favorite of mind makes me want to break out and do the Thriller dance in the train station. “Hair” is a song that gives just about everyone inner strength to live/carry on. The album is certified platinum and she continues to make history.

Beyoncé
4
Released: June 24, 2011

“Count down”, in my opinion should have been the first single off the songstress certified platinum fourth album. This reminds me of battle of the bands/ college tailgating rallies/ my high school stepping performances. The second single, “Best Thing I Never Had”, is a song suitable and related able to any imbecile that has ever tested you’re your patience and not to mention: “…sucks for you right now” catchy? Another track that stands out that reminds me of a Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys or even Mary J Bilge, not vocally but from a emotional stand point, where pain and agony can be heard thru the words actual emotion and feeling. Majority of the time the singer is almost always programmed and robotic. I felt almost a sense of courageousness on “I Care” with lyrics such as: “Aint nobody tell me this is love |When you’re immune to all my pain | I need you to tell me this love| you don’t care, well that’s okay…” can sums up everyone emotions after a bad break up, HUMPF, can I get AMEN?

Kelly Rowland
Here I AM
Released: July 22, 2011

Out of the 10 songs on the album, “Turn It Up” is my top pick. “Motivation”, did exactly that over the summer for everyone. “Work It Man”, “Feelin’ Me Right Now”, brings out the sexy bossy side of Kelly maybe even her, alter-ego, shall we say? Whatever it is confidence, or cockiness is rather sexy and needed here and there from her. Overall the album is a good product from Ms. Kelly for her third studio album, regardless if not certified gold yet.

Keep the heat coming ladies so that we can warm up during these Autumn evenings. One lady to watch is Melanie Fiona with her new song 4 AM… “Pull me up a drink I swear I need it” Be on the look out the girl is fire all the way. She is also burning up the air waves with Cee Lo Green on the song Fool For You. Her second studio album The MF Life on October 25, 2011.
