What is Type 1 diabetes it is a lifelong chronic disease in which there are high levels of (glucose) sugar in the blood. Most often it is diagnosed in children, adolescents or young adults. Insulin is a hormone produce by beta cells in your Pancreas. Insulin is needed to move glucose into your cells that are stored for energy. In a Type 1 diabetic there Pancreas does not produce insulin or very little. They receive insulin either, by injecting themselves with a syringe, or have pumps.
JDRF supports research to make life easier for those who suffer from Type 1 diabetes. The latest research is the Artificial Pancreas. An Artificial Pancreas will be a device that seamless tracks the blood sugar and automatically administers the right dose of insulin. This will make life easier for all those that have Type 1, parents, schools and those who deal daily with young people and this chronic disease. Please sign the above petition to ask the FDA to make sure the Artificial Pancreas is available as soon as possible.
