Love LZ Granderson he never disappoints with is opinion pieces. So I knew that I was going to enjoy his latest Permissive parents: Curb your brats where he discusses the lack of discipline some children have. More like the lack of discipline that parents dole out onto their children. A good spanking at times or that look that says I am not playing with you. Me it is the look along with my tone of addressing the behavior. Yes, I love my children but I also can’t handle the whining, so called tantrums and will not stand for rude behavior. With that said I do not want to deal with other people’s children behaving in that manner either. I have learned to deal with behavior issues at the time it happens. You will not run around as if you have no home training because you are representing me and our family when we are in public.
Yes I am a parent but if I refuse to deal with my children acting up in public I sure enough do not want to deal with other peoples. “You wanted them, deal wit them.”1 (Granderson, LZ) Dealing with them means more then giving into to there every wish it means actually disciplining them, talking with them, getting to know them and at times spanking them when needed. Yes being a parent is hard and being a productive adult in society even harder which is what we are raising are children to be. Let’s not short change them by allowing them to believe that the sun and moon rotates around them because they will be sadly mistaken. I love my children but just because I do it does not mean the world will and I tell my oldest this. She knows not everyone will like her for what ever reason and Middle School has proven this. I refuse to have them deal with a false sense of comfort life is not easy so a nice dose of discipline is needed in raising children.
